Driving? Post your route and open your spare seats. Not driving? Search for a lift and send a request.
Drive for others when it’s your turn. Ride with others when it isn’t. No money changes hands, and nobody is paid for a lift.
A carpool only works when people take turns. Offer seats on the days you drive, and take a seat on the days you don’t. It’s free for members, and everyone who offers or requests a seat has had their ID checked.
Every safety feature answers one question: would you feel comfortable getting into this car? Here’s what has to be true before anyone does.
Members have their ID checked with Stripe Identity (a photo ID and a selfie) before they can offer or request a seat. Yapalift receives the result and the date, not your photos. Drivers can also upload their motor insurance document for Yapalift to review. These checks are not a criminal background check.
Every member gives us a mobile number when they join, so Yapalift can reach them about their account. It is never shown to other members.
Drivers and passengers can rate each other after a trip. Reviews stay hidden until both have written one, or 14 days have passed.
Chat in the app before a seat is confirmed. Other members can’t see your phone number.
A check is not a guarantee of anyone’s safety, conduct or insurance cover. Use your own judgement.
Irish law draws one clear line, and everything turns on it: carrying people for reward needs a Small Public Service Vehicle licence. Yapalift is built so no journey on it is ever for reward.
We are not competing with taxi drivers, and we are careful not to. Nobody takes a Yapalift instead of a taxi across town. People take it instead of driving 200 km alone, or instead of not travelling at all because the bus does not go there. Every seat we fill is a car that was already on the road.
No money changes hands, and nobody is paid for a lift. Members must not ask for anything in return for a seat, and a Member who does is removed. Read the legal basis.
Yapalift matches people for free. Riders request a seat, and members take turns driving. Join for the whole route or just a stop-to-stop stretch.
Every seat that gets filled is a car that stays at home. Share your commute and the emissions of one journey are shared between everyone in the car. For workplaces, that adds up to a real cut in commuter carbon.

I’m an architect from Maynooth. No car, unreliable trains, and one too many trips home spent standing at the side of the road watching empty seats drive right past me — that’s where this started.
So I’m building Yapalift: a carpool that runs like a bus timetable, except the “buses” are everyday people already making the trip. Less traffic, fewer empty seats, and maybe a neighbour along the way.
